Issue XIX, August

August, the month of colourful carnivals and mirth-filled merriment, has arrived. So it seems only fitting that we should spend it in the pursuit of activities that will warm us up inside, as much as the sun has recently been doing from outside. Here’s what has been catching our attention of late.

We’re marvelling at maestros with:—

Meeting Rivers, a thoughtfully curated hub for discovering and appreciating South Asian influenced music and culture. The latest in their live performance and conversation series welcomed British-Punjabi star Raf-Saperra for an intimate sit-down concert. We’re seeing stars with:—

Frankie Goes to Bollywood, an electric new musical drawing on real stories of British women navigating the glittering, glamorous world of Bollywood film. As you might expect, spectacular songs, dazzling dance numbers and epic emotions abound. Catch it at the Southbank Centre until 18th Aug: we’ll be there cee-teeing in the aisles.

We’re feeling all the feels with:—

imissmyfriends.studio – a charming, pint-size indie games studio in Goa. And their upcoming game Fishbowl, is as relatable as it is adorable. Unpack puzzles and complete fun tasks to help 21-year-old Alo figure out life one day at a time. If story-led gaming with diverse characters, beautiful pixel art and cosy music is your thing, this will be right up your gully.

We’re kicking back with:—

Permit Room Cambridge, who are now open for mischief. Find it in the cobbled lanes of Trinity Street, behind a pleasing mustard-hued door. Stop by for cocktails with friends, or linger longer over crispy-crunchy bar snacks and lip-smacking curries. Oh, and be sure to admire the art: stunning South Asian artists line the walls at every turn.
