We’ve spent much time seeking a deeper understanding of our impact on the world – on our people, our community, and the planet.
We’d like to think that we’ve become one of the very best employers in hospitality; we’re proud that we’ve donated over 20 million meals to children; and humbled to be breaking down barriers via our cultural events. With a clearer picture of our carbon footprint, we’ve made meaningful strides towards reducing it. And happily, we are now a certified B Corp. There’s still much to do, but we’re ready for it, and grateful for the progress we’ve made.
A snapshot of our achievements
There’s still much more to do of course, but for now, we're proud to have reached a few important milestones
We're officially a certified B Corp
B Corp
Dishoom and Dharma
Since 2010, our “Dharma”— our reason for being — has shaped everything we do. It articulates what we care deeply about: breaking down barriers, creating beautiful shared spaces, and deepening our impact by caring for people, community and the planet. It has been a joy and privilege to grow a business in this way. Thanks to our team and guests, we’re proud to share that this approach has led to our B Corp certification. There's still much more to do, and we’re most excited for the road ahead.
Events
Bringing people together
Our events bring people of all walks of life together: whether it’s getting non-Muslims to celebrate Eid, and non-Hindus to celebrate Diwali, or tying Knots of Protection on each other – we believe that creating shared spaces is extremely important work.
'Dishoom’s ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ event brought together South Asian women to break bread and discuss the wider issues they face. In a world devoid of connection, Dishoom continue to bring people together to share and support.' Anita Kaushal, CEO of Mauli Rituals
Planet
Understanding our carbon footprint
At Dishoom, we recognise the urgent need to combat climate change and have made a good start towards decarbonising our operations as well as supporting nature-based activities. While there is much more to be done, we have managed to reduce the amount of carbon emissions per meal that you eat in our restaurants, and we are supporting some great projects outside Dishoom to remove an amount of carbon more than equivalent to those emissions.
Charity
A meal for a meal
Dishoom breaks down barriers, just as the old Irani cafés of Bombay did. When hunger is a barrier to education it also becomes a barrier to social mobility. Working with Magic Breakfast in the UK and The Akshaya Patra Foundation in India, for every meal we serve, we donate a meal to a child who would otherwise go hungry. A meal for a meal.
Rewarding Careers
For big-hearted and talented people
Looking after people is at the core of what we do and we work hard to make life at Dishoom the best it can be. We definitely don’t see ourselves as just offering jobs – we care deeply about our people and are committed to creating satisfying, long-lasting careers.
