Dishoom Loves Issue XXXVIII, March

March finds its stride with gratefully received longer days and the first true hints of spring. The month has been rich with celebration – the joyful arrival of Eid and Navroz – kindly bringing with them renewal and gatherings around generous tables. Join us as we embrace the unfolding season with gentle aromas, literary discovery and garments fit for sunlit evenings.

We’re grasping new words with:—

The Desi Dictionary, a charming collection of South Asian language-learning books. Created to help families preserve and pass down their mother tongues. Words, perhaps in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati or Punjabi, are transliterated into English. Indecipherable phrases in their original script become delightfully clear to those unfamiliar. Peruse an array of books thoughtfully designed for every age – fluency beckons.

Deepen your language

We’re lingering in softer scents with:—

SUNDARA, an incense holder and agarbatti artisan. Replace old candles or diffusers with a thing of elegance: the satin brass burner, a delight for eyes and noses. Crafted to temper the chaos and confusion of daily life, SUNDARA boasts an array of most-pleasing aromas. Luxuriate in a ritual of scent and stillness.

Discover fragrant calm

We’re restocking our shelves with:—

Shalimar Books, an ambassador for Indian literature in the UK, sharing works with schools, libraries and bookshops alike. They reside in a London bookshop of their own, too. Leisurely browse shelves, resplendent with treasured texts, from children’s tales to politics and poetry. And there are glorious expressions of Indian artistry – fine art and fairly traded craft – to acquire, too.

We’re pausing for chai with:—

Loka, the engineers of a much-longed-for Chai Maker. Your daily glasses of chai are a thing of wonder – deeply warming anchors to quieter moments. They deserve a worthy making-practice. Loka’s chai fountain does just that. No overflows, a delightful pour. Replace ‘patiently’ waiting and uninvited spillages with delicious ease.

Refine your chai ritual

We’re dressing to the nines with:—

Bodements, India’s first vintage clothing store. Resolute in reviving once-cherished finds into reimagined masterpieces. Each piece is crafted slowly; heritage materials (that may have draped upon best-dressed ancestors) are stitched and sewn by artisans into new treasures. Beautiful things are kept in circulation. Thankfully, garments can travel internationally.
