This Diwali, we join our friends, The Tamil Prince

The story behind our joyous union

Every year, the Festival of Light carries the promise of fresh starts and renewed optimism. Across India, many marvel at glittering fireworks across charcoal skies. Homes glow with flickering diyas. Mithai boxes are exchanged, and friends, families and neighbours gather at tables laden with food. It’s the most joyous time.

Together, we wondered: how to capture this magic on a plate?

For Dishoom Chef-walla Arun, childhood Diwalis meant Malai Kofta – a North Indian dish bound up with comfort and celebration. Now, in a joyful act of reinvention, it returns with South Indian heart in our co-created Diwali special.

Coconut & Green Mango Malai Kofta with Laccha Naan.

A traditional bhuna base lifted with creamy coconut and tart green mango, spiced with mustard seed, curry leaf and a lively tadka. All is crowned with ribbons of coconut, while buttery, flaky laccha naan waits to rip, dip and mop. ’Tis a dish of friendship, shared roots and new beginnings – available across Dishooms, Permit Rooms and for delivery, 13th–28th October.

And because Diwali is best celebrated together, we’ll gather on 28th October for a one-night-only Diwali Supper Club with The Tamil Prince at Dishoom Shoreditch Verandah.

A jubilant three-course vegetarian thali awaits – House Chaat, Paneer Ruby, Veg Uttapam with Coconut Chutney, and more, with a sweet finale of Sago Kheer Tart – devised by Chefs Arun Tilak and Prince Durairaj, who will join the evening to share cooking tales and stories of this union. It will be a most intimate feast, sure to sell out quickly. Set alarms for ticket sales soon!

Whether you join us at the table or savour the special at home, may your Diwali be filled with love, light and togetherness.
